About Spices
The main agricultural spices regulated by JACRA are grown in the following major production areas in Jamaica:
- Pimento – St. Elizabeth, Westmoreland, St, Ann, Portland and St. Mary
- Nutmeg – St. Mary, St. Catherine, St. Thomas and Portland
- Ginger – St. James, Hanover, Trelawny, Westmoreland, Clarendon, Portland, St. Thomas and St. Andrew
- Turmeric – Westmoreland and Hanover
Pimento is a major export commodity which accounts for 90% of the Spices division’s operations, with nutmeg accounting for 5%, ginger 4% and turmeric 1%.
